Rock CF Announces 3 Day Canoe Trip on the Colorado River!

November8

Oh man I’m excited about this one!

The good people at Centennial Canoe Outfitters Inc. and I have collaborated for the Rock CF Fundraiser on the Colorado River. This spectacular canyon country of the Colorado Plateau, including Ruby and Horsethief Canyons, features majestic walls of red sandstone and offers some of the best Colorado canoeing and Colorado sea kayaking. The river is gentle with occasional small Class I+ rapids to add spice to the journey (Class I is easy and Class V is difficult). Roads do not bound this portion of the river and the steep-walled canyons are accessible only from the river, giving the area a true wilderness setting.

I am pleased to say that I will be the host for this trip!! So I’ve made the decision to turn it into a S’mores tasting and sing along themed weekend. This summer I went on another 3 day trip with Centennial and had the best time ever. We canoed, camped, hiked, ate, sang, found exotic cow pies, played games by the fire and I met some of the nicest people. You know what’s cool? The guides from my trip this summer (Pam and Mike) had so much fun with us that they have signed on to be our guides for the Rock CF trip! These two know their rivers, games, stories and cook up some damn fine food!

Space is limited for this trip so check out all of the info (click the pics to see the event page on Centennial) and start making your plans. I cannot thank Marty at Centennial Canoe enough for setting this up. Please join in on the fun!

Day 10- Here I go Again..Rattle snake shake.

October2

CF-side, originally uploaded by Let’s Rock CF.

Hey ya’ll!

I gotta say I had the best couple of days this week in Salt Lake City and am so glad we trucked ahead to stay an extra night there. I was able to finally meet and hang with my friend Somer who lives there and also happens to have CF. I need to make this clear, CF patients are incredible! Ok now that that is out of the way…Somer and her friend met me and my dad for dinner the first night we rolled in. We talked and laughed a ton and had a great time. Last night we met up again for dinner and had a darn good time! Lots of laughs, so much our cheeks hurt! We met this morning for some Starbucks then she took us over to her dad’s house.. ok, ready for this? There are animals, wild animals, everywhere in the house.

It is fascinating. If I lived there I would never sleep because I swear the dik dik was talking to me..anyway her dad hunts these animals and then donates the meat to the village where he gets them. Pretty cool!

After our wild adventure Somer went home to get her Vespa, oh yeah forgot to mention that..she rides a Vespa too!

Her mom and her mom’s boyfriend brought over his big truck, aka Boss Hoss, to snap some shots with..check it out:

The coolest thing was that the three of them led us out of SLC today. I followed the gigantic Hoss and my dad followed me. So nice of them and we actually didn’t get lost. Those streets are crazzzy there.

Our trip from Salt Lake City to Delta was about 120 miles and we knocked that out pretty fast. I did hit the 1,000 mile mark on Blitz..a lot of miles!

We didn’t see a place to eat the entire stretch today. We were starving so when we got to Delta we hit up the Pizza House. This place makes a great wheat crust veggie pizza! The two people working there were so great. They donated our meal and I want to give them a really big shout out and thank you!

Since it was so early I decided it would be sweet to hop on my and ride for 20 or so miles. Ya know, to get a head start on tomorrows long day. On my ride I ran over a dead rattle snake that honestly freaked me out a little bit. Well I got about 5.5 miles into the ride and had a flat tire. I got back to the hotel to change the tire and get this…the rattlesnakes fang was in my tire!!!!!! OUTRAGEOUS and awesome at the same time!

Tomorrow we are off to Caliente, NV. I took German in high school but if I remember correctly, caliente means warm, right? We will be on the loneliest road in America. 90 miles without anything..I made pb+j’s and packed a ton of fruit to take for lunch. Maybe a little picnic in the desert!

New Plan of Attack for E2E!

August11

Hey friends,

I just want to inform and update my supporters on what’s going on with me. The last couple of days of the ride to Chicago I started to have some problems with my achilles tendon. So bad that the last day I could barely pedal and putting shoes (other than bike shoes) and socks on was not an option. So I got the first doctors appointment I could Saturday am and was told what I did NOT want to hear. I cannot continue on by bike to California for the Emily to Ellen adventure. The key word here though is bike. The show will go on!

I’m a strong believer that things do indeed happen for a reason and after a brief chat with Dr. Wayne Dyer I am refilled with hope. After wiping some tears, a lot actually, my mind started racing and a Vespa scooter popped up. So now I am on the hunt for a Vespa to take cross country! I’m picturing my dog Bling Bling in a side car with goggles and a scarf and me rocking an awesome helmet (see below).

So, physical therapy on my achilles starts today and fits right in to my rest and ice routine. I am completely devastated about this but only see it as a minor hurdle in my life. My whole summer was riding (literally) on this cross country trek but I will be back on a bike soon and hopefully I can regain strength in my tendon and train to run the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon. My family has taught me to not stop dreaming and to keep fighting. Like the Free Press article says, I am known for “making lemonade when life serves up lemons.” Well I am picking some lemons off of a tree right now, any want some lemonade? It’s on me!

Here’s my dream machine: Vespa LXV 150..picture the E2E4CF logo on the sides of that baby.

Stay tuned for the latest plan of attack. I may turn my ride into a yoga tour stopping at all possible Lululemon stores on my way to Ellen.

No matter what, the show WILL go on and I will be in California one way or another!

Emily is Riding Her Bike to Ellen!!!

July1

You heard it right folks! Starting the fist week of August I will be riding my bicycle from Detroit, MI to Burbank, CA!

Continuing west from the 3rd Annual City to City Ride from Detroit to Chicago was a decision I made to show just how much I want to be on the Ellen Show but most importantly I will have the opportunity for an incredible ride and numerous opportunities to spread awareness and raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. So I’ll be heading west… Waaaaay west, about 2,500 miles.

Right now I am looking for 100 people to donate $25 to make this ride possible. If you want to be one of the core donors please click the pic below then click the DONATE button on the bottom of the page. We’re 90 people away right now!

If you want to make a direct donation to the CF Foundation you can do so by clicking the image below:

You’ll be able to follow my ride at www.E2E4CF.com! Video updates, blogs and a map will be featured on that site.

More updates for my ride accross America and the City to City Ride will be posted soon and often. My hope is to be able to connect with CF families and friends across America. Once my route we can figure out who is where!

Ottowa County Sheriff’s Rocked CF!

May13

On Saturday May 9 a group of Ottowa County Sherrif’s led by my brother Adam ran in the 5/3 River Bank Run in Grand Rapids, MI for Rock CF Racing. About 20 or so runners including myself ran the 10k, 5k and the big 25k! Everyone rocked brand new Rock CF running shirts and all finished with great times and great stories, mostly about the rain!

Above are a few 25K runners before the race and me giving my bro a pre race punch.

I must say that I am so proud of Adam who trained his tail off and ran the 15.5 mile race. Now he didn’t just run it, he busted it out and finished with a time that surprised us all. Great job buddy, I’m so proud of you and can’t wait to run the Dexter- Ann Arbor half marathon with you May 31!

Here he comes at mile 14!

Here we are looking good and dry after the race.

Oh and here’s the real leader of the team, my brand new baby niece Kacey Emily Schaller!!!

Thanks again to all of the runners, you really made me proud! So far they have raised over $2,000 for the Rock CF Foundation. See you all next year!

Watch Emily’s Tennis Auction Ball Speech!

March29

(Click the picture above to see my speech)

On Saturday night I was lucky enough to attend and speak at the Metro Detroit Chapter of the CF Foundation’s Tennis Auction Ball! It was an incredible event with a lot of very caring people who despite this economy reached into their pockets and bought some hope for cystic fibrosis. Last week I even barowed a polo shirt, put on my seersucker pants  and showed up to watch the tennis portion of the event.

We danced to the sounds of the band who made up Mitch Ryder and  the Detroit Wheels, ate a beautiful dinner and I even walked away with a canoe/kayak trip out west, a tennis racquet and tennis lessons! What a great night to help Rock Cystic Fibrosis so hard that it will one day stand for “Cure Found.”

Happy Holidays from Rock CF

December8

I hope everyone is having a great Holiday season!! I just finished baking my first from scratch cookies ever! My Christmas shopping is already done and I can tell this is going to be a great finish to a wonderful but eventful 2008. Emily and Rock CF got some great press this year. From the

Forbes Article

The Associated Press story that ran worldwide

SPIN magazine

the Rock CF Foundation is out there and is growing.

This year was a big year for me too. Two tune ups in one year was a little annoying and the gallbladder surgery was unexpected but these things didn’t stop me from training for and running my first half marathon in June or from riding my bike 282 miles from Detroit to Chicago  with three great friends and my brother Jason behind.

I still believe that coupled with my daily med routine exercise is the key to keeping me healthy and strong!

This year I was able to travel to the Novartis/TOBI Conference in January to play drums with some people from the TOBI and Xolair teams, speak and thank everyone on the TOBI team for giving me this wonderful med! There I met some lifelong friends while having a blast!

In October I was also flown to Orlando with my band for the North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference. We played at the first plenary session and I spoke right after. This was the absolute most amazing experience of my life. Meeting and getting to know everyone from the CF Foundation was incredible and also seeing and speaking with all of the people who work with CF everyday was just awesome. Thanks Dr. Beall and the CFF!

My goal is to run a full marathon in the Spring of 2009. Currently I am going to therapy for my knee and once that is healed I will be hitting the pavement very hard to train for the big 26.2 mile run. I am very excited and have great confidence that I can pull this one off.

2009 is going to be the best year for the Rock CF Foundation, I can tell. Hopefully our events will grow and gain even more support from the community. Even though times are tough we are still in this fight and will do whatever we can to help rock cystic fibrosis so hard that CF stands for Cure Found.

Above is Dr. Beall receiving a hug from me and right now I am sending you all a giant holiday hug!

Happy Holidays and as always Rock CF,

Emily
