My good friends over at Pulmozyme are launching a new program today! The program will assist cystic fibrosis patients and families with their monthly co pays for Pulmozyme, one of my favorite inhaled drugs that allows me to be able to run and ride.
This could not come at a better time for me. I’m in between primary insurances and my head is spinning because my last bill for CF meds was $10,495! Of course my incredible insurance covers most of that but right now that wouldn’t be the case. It’s because of programs like this one from Pulmozyme and the program from TOBI that CF families are able to get the necessary meds that we need!
My favorite America’s Got Talent girls are going to be back in action for the semi finals of the show starting next week!! Set your TiVo’s and DVR’s for the August 24 show.
In case you don’t know these two sisters both have cystic fibrosis too. They are singers and so far are knocking the socks off of America on the show. They will need YOUR vote so please watch and then vote for them.
Hopefully you all caught the Regis and Kelly show on Tuesday.. My good friend Shannon Murphy (seen below Rocking CF) filled in for Kelly and I was able to be in the audience to see it all happen. Yesterday morning I woke up at 5am and was on the subway by 5:30 to get to the ABC studios to wait on a standby line for a ticket. When I finally got a number which happened to be my lucky number 17, I knew I would make it in. Unfortunately I sat house left right behind ALL of the cameras so I never was able to connect with her. But I was able to sit there and just be so proud of such a good person! She even got a kiss from Joey Lawrence..whoa!
Now is your chance to run and Rock CF at the same time!! Hopefully you are in the middle of training for the full or half marathon that you’ll run in Detroit on October 17. If so, come out and run for team Rock CF! You can run the full, Half, Relay or 5K, raise some dough for Rock CF and you will get a special edition Rock CF shirt to wear during the race!
Register for the races here And once you do send an email to me emily@letsrockcf.org so we can figure out your tee shirt size and more details.
Breathe Deep. Run Hard. Rock CF.
Emily
ATTENTION NON RUNNERS: If you want to help out on race day you can do that too. Rock CF is partnering up with the lululemon Somerset store to man a water station and we NEED your help! Email me if you want in: emily@letsrockcf.org
Yesterday I was invited to the Lululemon store in Somerset for a Fit Session..I tried on all of the new lulu running gear (except for that running skirt..not gunna do it) and they got my opinion and thoughts on the rocking new stuff. I need to say something..those guys know something over there; they know how to make incredibly comfortable clothing that is guaranteed to make you look good and maybe even run faster. AND the new crops have spaces to hold GU!! The clothes are so soft and comfy that sometimes it feels like your naked, a very nice feature.
I’m very excited for some Rock CF and lululemon tag teaming on some big Runs & Races coming up…we will also need YOUR help too!
Here is a shot from my session..notice I’m in the BREATHE dressing room:
The 1st annual Rock CF Half Marathon & 5k is set for Sunday March 20 on Grosse Ile, Michigan.
Mark your calendars. Find a training schedule and get on the ball. People with Cystic Fibrosis who run will have their fees waived!
I guarantee this will be one of the coolest, most scenic and fastest races in Michigan. Stay tuned for registration details and much much more.
Of course we will be looking for all stages of sponsorships and volunteers to make this race possible. If you or your company have any interest please email me emily@letsrockcf.org.
It has happened…my dream to be in Runner’s World Magzine has come true! Two dreams in one year? What’s the other dream? Meeting my hero Ellen DeGeneres last year of course.
This is something that my running partner Kevin and I would talk about all the time on runs. He’d say “Emmmm you gotta get into Runner’s World somehow.” We did it Kev!
RW is my absolute #1 magazine of all time. Every month when it arrives on my door step it’s like Christmas. I tear it open and read it front to back…those who know me know that I usually just look at pictures in magazines..a.d.h.d!
Ok, so you can read the article by clicking the pic below or the RW logo above. Buuut..I suggest you wait until the new issue comes out next week to see the full page pic! (It’s the September issue that will be out in August).

FRESH AIR
Running helps a patient with cystic fibrosis clear her lungs and add years to her life.
By Nancy Averett
Nancy Averett is an awesome lady who I spent a few days with up here. Great writing Nancy!!
My goal is to make this the biggest selling issue of RW yet! Let the campaign begin!
I don’t like to toot my own horn toooo much but today put in your earplugs! I just made myself a knock out lunch! Pictured above you see:
Trader Joe’s Split Pea Vegan Soup with a few Kashi 7 Grain Crackers
The Sandwich…ohhhh the sandwich:
2 Pieces of Trader Joe’s Sprouted Wheat Bread- Toasted
Trader Joe’s Edamame Hummus slathered on both pieces of bread (This stuff is killer)
Sliced red onion
Avocado slices
Butter lettuce
2 Slices of beefsteak tomatoes grown right in my back yard! Salt and peppered!
Of course you’ll need to throw in some carrot sticks on the side (I ate half before the pic) and some fresh fruit. Today’s choice is black grapes. YUM!
Eating fresh fruits and veggies is very important for good nutrition. I’m a firm believer in eating the colors of the rainbow as much as I can each day..today I knocked out Red, orange, yellow, green…blue, indigo and violet..well the grapes are dark purple..so I guess I’ll just have to eat blue moon ice cream to get my blue in! Wait..I had blueberries for breakfast so I’m covered!
