Behind the Scholarship: Meet the Bowman Brothers Who Inspired It All

Every great grant starts with a source of inspiration - Blake and Brett Bowman are ours. Local Metro Detroit natives, both brothers were born with cystic fibrosis, and resiliently faced endless challenges. In 2015, Blake passed away, and in 2019, his brother Brett underwent a double lung transplant and went blind shortly after.

Despite it all, Brett has pushed forward to build his future, attending trade school and becoming our first Bowman Scholarship recipient. Today, Brett is thriving in the workforce as a massage therapist, proving that anything is possible with hard work and community support.

At Rock CF we’ve witnessed firsthand the financial, physical and mental challenges of navigating the workforce with CF. Together with the Bowman family, we wanted to uplift the CF community and help make fulfilling lives and careers possible with our education scholarships.

ColleEn’s story

I was behind in my career and professional skills after taking time out of the workforce to manage my CF. The Bowman Grant removed any financial barriers and gave me the opportunity to modernize my skills through certification classes which has helped me adapt and thrive in the evolving work landscape.”
